'The average person's happiness if FAR BELOW what it could potentially be.' Dr Michael Fordyce
There is a growing amount of research around happiness and positivity showing that happiness is not something that just happens but something which we can choose and consciously work on improving. Our levels of positivity depend on three elements: genetics play a large part and influence our set 'happiness level'; external circumstances also play a significant role, however something called 'hedonic adaptation' means that sooner or later we return to our happiness set point. Our thoughts and actions make up the third element and the one over which we have the most control. Evidence shows the benefit of counting our blessings (cultivating gratitude regularly), meditating and visualising the great outcomes we are hoping for. So the very act of just imagining your ideal future can make you happier!
