How do you recognise that you are stuck? Do you feel that your life is in a rut? Have you stopped dreaming of a bright future? Do you look at the progress others make and feel disappointed that you are unable to do the same? Perhaps you feel your life is just 'okay' - you are not waking every day with a sense of excitement but it's certainly not awful, it definitely could be much worse?
If you answer yes to these questions it is likely that you are 'stuck' in certain parts of your life. And you are not alone! I recently spoke to a large roomful of people and it became clear that at some point, they had all felt stuck - lacking in progress - in certain areas of their lives: perhaps work had gone a bit stale, relationships weren't living up to original expectations, personal growth had ground to a halt.
The great news is that once you realise that you are stuck, then you can start feeling excited because you can do something about it and amaze yourself with the change and progress which you can achieve.
LANGUAGE is a huge indicator of being stuck and the key to ensure we start progressing. Start REALLY listening to the words you use both in conversation and internally. If you keep saying to others, 'I can't do this'; 'I can't change'; 'I'm not good enough'... and your internal dialogue reinforces this, then the impact of this repeated negativity is immense and your subconscious will not contemplate the idea that you can become unstuck.
The great news is that you can change - and this change can happen in an instant! Find language that empowers you and opens up new possibilities. Identify your negative patterns and start replacing them. Turn your 'cant's' into something more positive - even the addition of the word 'yet' leads your subconscious to the belief that you are about to be be able to do it! Or perhaps you are going to start learning to do something; or taking the first very small steps on the right road?
TAKE TIME OUT - do you have a 'safe place' you can go to think? Perhaps go for a walk along the beach or in the countryside where you can ask yourself what is really important to you and what you want from your future. Find out where you are not being true to yourself in your present life and what you need to do to live authentically, in line with your hopes and values.
START FOCUSING ON WHAT YOU WANT - when you feel stuck you are focussing on the problem and that will not generate a solution. Spend time working out what you want instead. What really excites you, aligns with your values, would make you jump out of bed in the morning looking forward to the day ahead? Make this future as vivid as possible. What will you see? What will you be saying to yourself when you are progressing? What will others see when they look at you - and what will they tell you? How fantastic are you going to be feeling? Once you have a really clear picture of where you want to go, your subconscious is going to be working flat out to help you get there.
MAKE A PLAN AND START EXECUTING IT - once you have decided what you want to do - make a plan to get you there. Work out what steps you can take immediately - they don't have to be huge - go the library and start doing research? Sign up for a new exercise class? Prioritise time to put some fun back into your life? It's all about being in control - now that you have started making these changes, you will immediately climb out of that rut. Celebrate your progress, keep focussing on your future and know that you have all the resources you need to carry on living a more positive, empowered life.
